Jasper is here!

Name/screenname: Megan/ Meganvon
EDD/birthdate: June 11/June 5
Name: Jasper Charles Vaughan
Gender: Boy
Weight: 7lb 5oz
Length: 20 inch

On Wednesday we went to my regular appointment and my bp had jumped up to 139/98 and there were traces of protein in my urine. So my doctor said we should just go ahead and induce the next day. We came in Thursday night around 7pm for our scheduled induction. It took them forever to check me in and get things going. By the time they hooked me up to the monitors I was already having some contractions, although not very strong ones. I had a really funny old lady for a nurse. She was from Nigeria and it was hard for me to understand what she was saying. She and the resident argued over how much pitocin to give me.

So the pitocin got things moving along. Around 5am I was tired and starting to get uncomfortable so I asked for the epi. I had the nicest Anesthesiologist ever! In general all the nurses and doctors were fabulous. So I was nice and numb for about 2 hours. Then around 7am I felt really dizzy and nauseous. Baby's heart rate dropped and my bp dropped suddenly. They came in, rolled me over to my side, gave me oxygen and broke my water to put an internal monitor on. So I started feeling better and baby was fine but then I was feeling the contractions. And it got worse and worse.

By this point the pitocin was really kicking in and my contractions were 2 minutes apart. And my epi was failing! I got the whole anesthesiology team come in (a doctor and 2 residents) to try and figure out why I wasn't getting the meds. They tried everything they could but it took over an hour and ½ to get any relief. I have never been in that kind of pain before. I can't believe how terrible it was. Finally they gave me a spinal block and reinserted my epi. I was in heaven!!!

I got to rest for about an hour or so and woke up feeling the urge to push. My OB was in surgery so they asked me if I could wait 15 minutes and I said “No, I need to push this kid out now!” And boy was I right! After 15 minutes of pushing Jasper slid out at 12 noon on the dot. I didn't tear but I did poop during delivery. (It was gross! LOL)

He's a perfect 7lb 5oz, 20 inches. He's been bf really well. He's still pretty tired and doesn't want to wake up to eat too often. I'm sure that will change soon!

Week 19

Well last week was the big ultrasound. The baby looks just fine. He was being stubborn and the tech couldn't get all the shots she wanted too. It took an hour. Poor Tate was so tired of sitting and waiting around. Ben and I had our hopes up it would be a girl. I even bought some pink yarn...sigh. But we're getting used to the idea of two boys. We've pretty much settled on the name Jasper. We've been trying to teach Tate his brothers name. He remembers about %75 of the time. And then all of the sudden he started calling him Jackson. And we were like "who's Jackson, Tate?" It must be a kid from school because we've never talked about that name. Either that or Tate has an imaginary friend we don't know about:)

The weather has been so terrible, we've been stuck inside all week. I even kept Tate home from school on Thursday because it wasn't worth going out in the -20 weather. So we've been working on moving Tate to the bigger bedroom. (It was the office.) First we moved just the full bed in there. Tate was sooooooo excited about this he had to sleep in there right away. So now we've moved most of his room in there. We even made a trip to Ikea for toy storage. And it's really looking nice in there! We put the new quilt Grandma V made for him on the bed. It's so colorful it brightens up the whole room. This morning I was dressing him for church and he told me "I love my room, mommy."

So Jasper must be having a growth spurt this week. He's been pushing on all my insides. It was pretty uncomfortable yesterday. And it felt like he was doing kickboxing! Oi, just what I need, another active boy!
